Lessons and scheduling

How the teaching works

How long is a session and how often should we book?

Fifty-five minutes is standard, with eighty-five minute doubles common in maths and the sciences. Forty minutes is available for younger students and is usually the right call below about Year 8.

One session a week per subject suits most families during term. Two a week is worth it in the run-in to an exam series, and three is almost never worth it.

Can we reschedule?

Free with twelve hours notice. Inside twelve hours the session counts as taught, because the only way a tutor can hold your slot every week and plan around it is if that slot is genuinely reserved.

Illness and emergencies are handled by a human, not a policy. Write to us.

What does my child receive after each lesson?

The annotated whiteboard as a PDF, the session recording, a three-line progress note saying what was covered and what was shaky, and one task with a deadline. All of it lands in the parent account the same evening.

Do parents sit in?

You are welcome to, and for younger students we encourage it for the first session or two. For teenagers it is usually counterproductive after that, which is a judgement your tutor will share honestly.

Can two children share a session?

Siblings on the same syllabus, yes, at a reduced rate per head. We cap it at two, because at three it becomes a class and a class is a different product taught a different way.

Tutors

Who will be teaching

Who will my child's tutor be?

Named before you book, with their subject background and examining experience. If the person who taught the trial is not going to be your tutor, we tell you that up front rather than after the invoice.

What if the tutor is not the right fit?

Tell us after any session and we reassign at no cost, with the plan and the notes handed over so nothing restarts from zero. Fit is a scheduling problem, not a failure, and pretending otherwise wastes everyone's term.

Are tutors background checked?

Tutors working with under-18s hold current background checks appropriate to their jurisdiction. Sessions are recorded by default and no tutor contacts a student outside the platform.

Do tutors have examining experience?

Many have marked or examined the papers they teach, and we prioritise that in hiring. Where a tutor has not examined, they are trained on the mark schemes and examiner reports before taking students.

Exams and boards

Boards, entries and results

Which exam boards do you cover?

Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel including International A Level, AQA, OCR, WJEC Eduqas and CBSE. Tell us the board and the specification code and we plan against that specific paper.

Can you enter my child for an exam?

No. We are a tutoring service, not an exam centre, and entries go through a registered centre. For private candidates we will help you find a centre that accepts external entries, which is genuinely the hardest part.

Do you guarantee a grade?

No, and treat any provider that does with suspicion. What we will do is tell you in writing what the target grade would require and whether the timeline is realistic.

What about coursework and non-examined assessment?

Supported strictly within board rules, which means discussing approach, commenting on structure and giving feedback on drafts. We do not write content that a student must produce independently.

Can you help after results day?

Yes. We review the mark against boundary history and give a straight view on whether a remark or a resit is likely to change anything. Sometimes the honest answer is that it will not.

Fees and payment

What it costs and how it is billed

How much does tutoring cost?

It depends on the level, the subject and the tutor's examining background, so we quote in writing before anything is booked. There is no joining fee, no materials fee and no minimum contract.

Is the trial really free?

Yes. Thirty minutes, no card details, and you leave with a marked piece of your child's own work and a written opinion from the tutor. A good number of families take that and go away to think about it.

How is billing handled?

Monthly in advance for a fixed weekly slot, or per block for exam sprints. Cancel with two weeks notice and any unused sessions are refunded.

Do you offer discounts?

A reduced per-head rate for sibling pairs, and a small reduction on blocks booked in advance. We do not run countdown offers, because a discount that expires on Friday is a pressure tactic rather than a price.

Technology and access

What you need to join a lesson

What equipment do we need?

A laptop or tablet, a stable connection and headphones. A cheap graphics tablet helps enormously in maths and the sciences, though a phone camera photographing paper works and is what most families use.

Which platform do you use?

Zoom with a shared interactive whiteboard. No software beyond Zoom is required, and nothing needs to be bought.

What if the connection drops mid-lesson?

The tutor waits five minutes and then reschedules the remainder at no cost. Connection failures are not charged, on either side.

Can students access sessions on a phone?

They can join, but the whiteboard is cramped and handwriting on a phone is miserable. For anything beyond a conversation, use a laptop or tablet.

Privacy and records

What we keep and for how long

Who can see the session recordings?

The registered parent account and our academic team for quality checks. Tutors cannot download them, and recordings are deleted twelve months after a course ends unless you ask us to keep them.

Can we get a copy of our records?

Yes. Ask and we send the marked work, notes and reports we hold for your child. That is your data and you should be able to take it with you.

Do you share information with schools?

Only if you ask us to. Some families want a progress report sent to a school, most do not, and we do nothing on that front without a written request.
